Welcome to the Fanny Crosby Blog
This blog is for the many fans of renowned hymnist Fanny Crosby. When I created the first webpage in 1996 about this special woman that was a student and teacher at the NY Institute for Special Education, I had no clue how much love there was out there for this woman. Her hymns still are sung and her efforts on this earth are still felt. What was one brief page is now a complete website at http://www.nyise.org/fanny/index.html that is always growing and expanding.
I am glad to finally have found a vehicle for other to express their faith and their passions for her hymns.

First of all, you need to include "word verification" on this blog to keep the spammers off.
But to what I was going to say, yes, there are still many of us who have been touched by Fanny Crosby's hymns, and I'm glad to find this information about this great saint.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have added verification like you suggested.

I am 61 years old. I was raised on Fanny Crosby and William Howard Doane hymns. I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a member of the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church (an affiliate of the American Baptist Convention) for nearly 30 years. William Howard Doane was (long before my time) also a long-term member of the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church in Cincinnati.
For those familiar with Fanny Crosby’s works may recall that many of her hymns, such as “To God Be the Glory” were written jointly with William Howard Doane (or W. H. Doane), who wrote the music to Fanny Crosby’s lyrics.
Legend (at the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church) has it, that Fanny would periodically come (I believe in the springtime) to Cincinnati to visit with William Howard Doane and jointly write hymns at his home on Auburn Avenue. Legend also has it that some of the hymns may have been written in the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church. The William Howard Doane house still stands to this day, and is two (2) doors (and within the same block) up the street from the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church. The William Howard Doane house is now owned by the Christ Hospital, which is also located on Auburn Avenue, next to the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church.
Although I’m no longer a member of the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church, my wife and I periodically visit the church, and remain close friends with some of its members.
As a side note… If you ever visit Cincinnati, the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church is located at 2147 Auburn Avenue. In addition to being within the same block as the William Howard Doane House, the church is within two (2) blocks of the William Howard Taft National Historic Site, located at 2038 Auburn Avenue. It was the birthplace and boyhood home of President William Howard Taft.
My name is Howard. My e-mail address is luvinsco@msn.com.

Oh, how I love Miss Fanny Crosby---her music is filled with such a direct inspiration of the scriptures. I wonder if we could do much more for the Lord, if we also listened to his still small voice like she did!

Anonymous (EBM, Dothan, Alabama) asked in the previous blog, "I am looking for the words and music to one of Fanny Crosby's hymns entitled 'Be Thou Exalted'. Can anyone help me locate this?"
I found the lyrics to "Be Thou Exalted" at this website: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/b/t/e/btexaltd.htm
I may be able to find the music at the church where I attend. Please contact me at luvinsco@msn.com for further information. My name is Howard. In the "subject" line, please include the words, "Fanny Crosby".
I posted a previous blog on this website. In it, I mentioned that I was a member of the Mt. Auburn Baptist Church (in Cincinnati, Ohio) for nearly 30 years. It is the same church where William Howard Doane (who wrote music for Fanny Crosby) was a long-term member.

Thank you for your blog on Fanny J. Crosby. I have been blessed to perform as Miss Fanny for almost 15 years and the amount of information I have found on her, while hard to research due to her incredible humilty, has been astounding. Someone asked about her salvation experience. She actually was in New York at the time and heard a hymn being sung in a revival service of a Methodist Church. The words she heard sung were, "alas and did my Savior bleed and did my Soverign die..." and at that moment made a decision to live completely for Christ. Up until that time, she has been quoted as saying, she had one hand holding tightly to Jesus and the other around the world. But at that moment wanted only Jesus."
A great biography on her is done by Bernard Ruffin. I also have her two autobiographies which go into greater detail about her personal life.
Blessings on you as you serve Jesus by sharing the hymns of Frances Jane Crosby.

A few nights ago I was unable to sleep. I tuned in to a christian tv station that happened to broadcast the biography of Fanny Crosby. I had been singing so many of the hymns she wrote but never knew her life story. I was b so moved that I took my SDA hymnal and searched for songs she had written. I sang the songs alone in my bedroom and I felt so much better. I needed to praise the Lord and He gave me the songs that would build trust and love for Him in my heart. I do not worship Fanny Crsoby. I only pray that I will meet her in Heaven by the Tree of Life. I want to tell her that I learned to lean on the Lord and trust Him. Because of the songs His Holy Spirit inspired her to write so many years before I was born my heart carries a tune that blesses me day by day. To God Be The Glory, great things He hath done.

What a surprise to come across a blog about Fanny. I have been doing Fanny Crosby as a dramatization of her telling her life story. I have read numerous books about her and have loved her for many years now. I have been doing her for about 14 yrs. I came across this blog when i was looking into the house of William Howard Doan. I will be performing a program at Dr. Doan's gravesite in Oct 2010.
